Ukrainian forces from the 15th Separate Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade, known as Black Forest, conducted a strike on the Khalino airfield in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, destroying a MiG-29 fighter jet and a Pantsir-S1 air defense system. The operation is framed by Kyiv as part of a broader effort to weaken Russia’s ability to defend military targets and to sustain pressure on Moscow’s war effort. In addition to the Khalino strike, Ukrainian forces reportedly hit other Russian assets overnight, including a Bussol-S radar station near Khorly, ammunition and logistics depots, and multiple drone command posts and targets across Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kursk regions. The MiG-29’s estimated value is cited at around $25 million, with Pantsir-S1 systems valued at roughly $15–20 million per unit, highlighting the significant material impact of these strikes. Russia, meanwhile, reported large drone losses on its side, while Ukraine claimed success in destroying a wide array of air defense assets as part of ongoing deep strike operations. Kyiv emphasizes that such measures will continue as part of a systematic effort to end Russia’s armed aggression.
