GTA Modder Connects Three Classics via Portals
A group of GTA modders led by Dryxio has created a live, multi-game portal system that lets players switch between Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas in real time, all running within a single process. The portals are real-time openings where bullets, NPCs, and cars can interact across games, and each title maintains its own saves, missions, and AI while sharing the same Direct3D device. Players can walk through portals on Grove Street to control Claude in Liberty City or Tommy Vercetti in Vice City, effectively stitching the three classics into one persistent, interconnected world. The modders emphasize that the three games run concurrently behind the portals, not as prerecorded footage or video textures, and that a full public release is not yet available. This work comes alongside speculation about GTA 6’s release and is seen by some as a technical milestone that could influence future game development, though it remains unofficial and experimental. Reports consolidate multiple demonstrations and notes by Dryxio across various outlets, all describing the same cross-game, live-running portal concept.
