Investigators say Rodriguez obtained the warrant under false pretenses, claiming a robbery investigation linked to the husband; the GPS data was then used to track him to Utah and was shared with his private-security employer. Prosecutors allege Rodriguez’s work for the private security company often involved other active law enforcement officers and helped a client with intimidating or monitoring a target connected to a divorce dispute. The LASD condemned the misconduct, stating the department cooperated with federal investigators, and Rodriguez’s actions do not reflect the values of its rank-and-file officers.
