The charges follow an independent disciplinary finding that the espionage was a top-down plan authorised by Eckert, contributing to Southampton's dramatic fall from contention as they were expelled from the Championship play-offs and handed a four-point deduction for the 2026/27 season. Southampton has publicly backed Eckert and said it will cooperate fully with the FA while focusing on preparations for the 2026/27 campaign. The club's owner, Dragan Solak, has also expressed support, describing Eckert as a talented manager who deserves a second chance. Eckert has until late July 2026 to respond to the charges as the FA continues its investigation into those involved.
