Keropok seller charged over drone tobacco smuggling
A keropok seller, Mohd Nizam Ab Manaf, 46, pleaded not guilty in the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court to two charges of using a drone to smuggle tobacco into Sungai Udang Prison on July 15 at about 1:20am. The first charge is criminal trespass with intent to smuggle prohibited items under Section 447 of the Penal Code, carrying up to six months’ imprisonment or a fine; the second charge under Section 58 of the Prison Act 1995 carries up to RM10,000 in fines and up to five years’ imprisonment. The alleged drone involvement occurred at Taman Kris Satria, Sungai Udang. Prosecutors had proposed bail of RM20,000 for both charges, but the court ultimately set bail at RM7,000 with conditions, citing the defendant’s income of RM1,700 per month. The judge also ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station monthly until the case concludes, with Aug. 19 set for the next hearing and case documents.
