ADNOC Approves $6.2B Umm Shaif Gas Project
ADNOC has taken a final investment decision to spend $6.2 billion on the Umm Shaif Gas Cap development in Abu Dhabi, partnering with TotalEnergies, Eni and China National Petroleum Corporation. The project is expected to produce more than 600 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas and associated liquids by 2030, boosting the UAE’s domestic supply and its LNG platform as global gas demand rises. The investment is a central part of ADNOC’s broader push to expand gas output and energy security, including reducing reliance on imports and potentially expanding exports. The package includes three EPC contracts worth about $5.1 billion and a drilling program, with production seen reaching full scale by 2030 to meet domestic demand and industrial growth, including capacity for LNG exports. Analysts note the development underscores the Gulf’s strategy to capitalize on abundant gas reserves amid regional tensions and supply vulnerabilities, such as attacks on oil infrastructure and the Straits of Hormuz.
