Acadia expects Rett drug protection through 2041
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a Notice of Allowance for U.S. Patent Application No. 17/590,496 covering weight-banded dosing of trofinetide for Rett syndrome. Trofinetide is the active ingredient in Acadia’s DAYBUE and DAYBUE STIX, approved for adults and children ages 2 and older. Once issued, and with six months of pediatric exclusivity, the patent is expected to protect trofinetide in the United States through March 28, 2041—almost five years beyond the existing method-of-use patent that expires in July 2036. Acadia published the announcement on September 28, 2026. Neuren Pharmaceuticals licensed trofinetide to Acadia. Contested: No factual disputes found across the rated coverage. Neuren continues work on NNZ-2591, in Phase 3 trials for Phelan-McDermid syndrome and other orphan neurodevelopmental indications, with orphan, Fast Track, and Rare Pediatric Disease designations.
