Dark Sky Films and Exurbia Films are producing a hand-drawn, rotoscoped animated remake of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre with a planned 2027 release. The project will explicitly avoid any artificial intelligence, relying instead on veteran animators led by Animation Director and Art Director Paul Beck. A behind-the-scenes rotoscoped footage preview is slated for Texas Chain Saw Day on August 18, alongside 4K restoration screenings in theaters. Beck and the team emphasize that every frame will be hand-illustrated, tracing live-action footage frame by frame to preserve performances and atmosphere. The effort, tied to Beck’s history with Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly, aims to honor the original film’s legacy while offering a new visual experience. No AI will be used in the animation process, according to the producers and press materials.
