Man in Zombie Costume Charged After Austin Coffee Shop Stabbing
Shankar Temple Grace, 20, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police say two people were stabbed Wednesday night at Buzz Mill Coffee, 1505 Town Creek Drive in Austin. Officers and ATCEMS responded to a disturbance call around 8:54-9 p.m., found two victims—one with life-threatening injuries, one with non-life-threatening injuries—and both were hospitalized; authorities later said both were in stable condition. Police say the suspect fled in a pickup truck, hit an unoccupied Tesla Cybercab, and was located on a walking trail near Rosewood and Chestnut Avenues, about three miles from the scene, then booked into Travis County Jail. Witnesses told police he wore zombie makeup and a costume and had caused disturbances at the business before. Contested material in the record is none on core facts; outlets differ mainly in emphasis on the costume and the robotaxi crash. Investigators have not disclosed a motive or whether he knew the victims.
