Amazon cargo plane overruns Miami runway, strikes vehicles and catches fire

An Amazon-contracted Boeing 767-300 operated by 21 Air as Flight 7598 overran Runway 30 at Miami International Airport after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, struck airport equipment and two vehicles, and stopped near an area used for Tesla robotaxis. Five people, including 53-year-old airline-cleaning worker Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, were killed and five others were injured; the two pilots were the only people aboard the aircraft and survived. Naranjo’s widow has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Amazon, 21 Air, related companies and the pilots, alleging pilot error, inadequate training, safety-oversight failures and the use of an aging aircraft contributed to the crash. Flight-recorder data shows the plane briefly increased thrust after touchdown in a maneuver consistent with an attempted go-around before reducing thrust and reapplying the brakes, but investigators have not determined why it failed to stop. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating and plans to interview the surviving pilots, Joseph Carroll and Jaime Felipe Silva Molina; Amazon said it would cooperate and expressed sympathy for the victims’ families.
