Rangers Josh Jung exits with calf tightness; IL moves
Rangers third baseman Josh Jung exited Tuesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox with left calf tightness after appearing to slow on a play in the third inning; he was replaced in the top of the fourth but had already scored on a Jake Burger double. Jung had been the Rangers’ leading hitter at .294 entering the game, and Texas later sent him for further evaluation as the team announced additional injuries to the roster. Prior to Jung’s exit, catcher Kyle Higashioka was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right flexor strain, and pitcher Jose Corniell was moved to the 15-day injured list with the same issue. The Rangers recalled left-hander Marco Gonzales and catcher Austin Wynns from Triple-A Round Rock to help fill the gaps, while left-hander Jalen Beeks was transferred to the 60-day IL after shoulder surgery-related rehab. It remains unclear how long Jung might miss time, but the injury could prompt increased at-bats for Nicky Lopez if Jung isn’t available. MLB and team reports noted Jung’s exit and the surrounding IL moves as the latest wave of injuries affecting Texas this season.
