Cynthia Erivo Joins Snoop Dogg Biopic as Afeni Shakur

Cynthia Erivo has been cast as Afeni Shakur, Tupac Shakur’s mother and a former Black Panther activist, in Universal Pictures’ Snoop Dogg biopic, Snoop. The film follows Snoop Dogg’s life and rise to fame, with Jonathan Daviss in the lead role and Camron Jones portraying Tupac. Afeni’s complex relationship with her son inspired Tupac’s “Dear Mama,” a hit that remains one of his best-known songs. Craig Brewer is directing, and the production—which is filming in Southern California—will feature music from Snoop Dogg’s catalog.
