New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill said a software error at the Motor Vehicle Commission registered about 6,600 noncitizens to vote from June 2023 to June 2024, with fewer than 400 casting ballots. Applicants who marked noncitizen status were auto-registered to vote due to the system error, and the problem occurred under the previous administration. She ordered an independent investigation, pledged to remove those registered in error, and called for replacing the vendor responsible for administering the MVC system. State officials said most affected did not vote. The disclosures come amid heightened national scrutiny of election integrity, including proposals like the SAVE America Act.
