Gloria Steinem died in New York City on Sept. 2, 2026, at age 92, prompting tributes from activists, entertainers and public figures who credited her with advancing women’s rights. She co-founded Ms. magazine, championed the Equal Rights Amendment, and helped build support for gains in workplace discrimination protections, reproductive rights, education access and domestic-violence services. In the 1960s and 1970s, she also publicized United Farm Workers campaigns involving low wages, dangerous conditions and union boycotts.
