Meta is rolling out Facebook Verified, a free identity verification badge that uses a selfie to confirm an account belongs to a real person. The selfie is compared to existing profile photos, with the process typically taking a few minutes. Verified badges will appear across Marketplace, Dating, Groups, and Profiles, signifying authenticity rather than endorsement, and will eventually expand to Feed posts. Eligibility requires users to be at least 18 and in good standing with Facebook’s Community Standards, with Pages and ProMode accounts excluded. The move addresses concerns about AI-generated content, fake profiles, and scams by providing a trusted signal without a subscription fee, and will be rolled out in phases starting in select markets before a global expansion.
