Five-Time Pro Bowler Lawrence McCutcheon Dies at 76
Lawrence McCutcheon died on October 23 at age 76 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease, with family at his bedside. His son Marcus McCutcheon released a family statement saying Clutch earned the respect of teammates, opponents, colleagues, and fans through a decade-long playing career and 32 years in the Rams' front office, and asking those wishing to honor him to donate to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the third round in 1972, he rushed for 6,578 yards over 10 NFL seasons with four 1,000-yard seasons, helped Los Angeles reach Super Bowl XIV where he threw a 24-yard touchdown pass, and later played for Denver, Seattle, and Buffalo. At Colorado State from 1969-71 he left as the school's leading rusher with 2,917 yards, still seventh all-time, became the first Ram to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and 200 in a game, and had his name added to the Ring of Honor at Canvas Stadium on Sept. 19. No facts in the record are contested across outlets.
