Flood rescues aid residents across three regions

Rapidly rising floodwaters prompted emergency rescues in several communities. In Kampung Paya Jaras Hilir, Malaysia, firefighters evacuated three siblings and their bedridden mother after water rose to waist level, leaving the family little time to save belongings or medication. In Colorado’s Animas Valley, responders and neighbors helped residents escape knee-deep flooding, performing eight high-water rescues as more than 600 addresses were placed in the evacuation queue. In Palm Bay, Florida, teenagers used a kayak and paddleboard to rescue a mother, her son and their three dogs after they became trapped in their flooded home; other neighbors also helped vulnerable residents as unprecedented flooding inundated the area.
