China finishes world's longest metro loop as Colorado backs rail tax

Rail projects and reforms are advancing across several regions. Wuhan opened new metro sections that complete the world’s longest metro loop, while work also moved forward on a Lucknow underground extension, Lima metro tunnels and battery-powered maintenance locomotives for Paris. In Colorado, early election results showed voters approving a permanent sales tax to fund expanded Front Range passenger rail, while the independently funded Denver–Fort Collins starter service remains planned for 2029. India’s Northeast railway construction program spans 1,827 kilometers of new lines and track doubling, with officials citing difficult terrain and plans for substantial commissioning over the next five years. In South Africa, Grindrod completed the first private operator’s test run on the national freight network, as officials pursue reforms to open access and improve freight capacity; industry participants cautioned that reliable infrastructure and sustained investment will be essential.
