Google says services recovering after cloud outage hits UK banks
A Google Cloud power event at its London europe-west2 complex early on 20 October 2026 disrupted UK banks and other services. More than 1,500 Revolut issue reports were flagged shortly after 08:00 BST. Google reported elevated errors and intermittent network failures, later tied to a power event in zone europe-west2-b. Revolut, Lloyds Bank and HSBC confirmed disruption. Royal Mail, DPD, Forest and the HM Courts remote-hearing video platform were also affected. The outage came exactly one year after a 2025 AWS outage knocked over 1,000 sites, including UK banks, offline for hours. Google said it resolved the disruption at a third-party facility and services have been restored, and that it would publish an incident analysis. Revolut said services are now fully restored, customers' money and data are safe and remained safe throughout, and apologised. Lloyds said it understands the root issues have been resolved and expects all services back to normal soon. Rachael Ellen said she was unable to pay for parking because her Revolut account was not working and could not view a transaction from a relative. Guy Baybutt said his company could not access its website to process orders or book parcels onto DPD's system for collection.
