HCLTech to Build AI Centre in Odisha
HCLTech announced the establishment of its first AI data centre in Odisha, to be built at the Odisha Sovereign AI Park in Bhubaneswar, through a tripartite partnership with Sarvam and the state government. The project has a planned capital outlay of ₹14,257 crore, with financial assistance from the Odisha government, and aims to bolster India’s sovereign AI ecosystem by combining HCLTech’s full-stack AI capabilities with Sarvam’s foundation models. The facility will serve private and public sector enterprises, deliver multilingual AI services, and address data sovereignty requirements for government and industry. Official statements describe the move as a significant milestone in India’s sovereign AI push, underpinning Odisha’s role as a technology and innovation hub and expanding the local developer ecosystem. Estimates of job creation vary slightly across reports, with projections ranging from about 5,000 to 6,000 high-skilled direct roles and additional indirect opportunities. The MoU signing was witnessed by Odisha’s Chief Minister and senior executives from HCLTech and Sarvam, signaling close government-industry collaboration to accelerate digital transformation and AI-enabled services in the region.
