Himachal Pradesh is estimating losses of 800-1,000 crore due to monsoon-triggered disasters this season, even as the state reports a fully activated disaster response system with top-class preparedness. High-level preparedness meetings were completed before the monsoon, equipping all Deputy Commissioners with directions and support to respond quickly to emergencies. The State Emergency Operations Centre now uses advanced digital tools to receive incident reports in real time and to mobilize first responders within seconds. The ongoing monsoon has caused heavy rainfall, landslides, flash floods and cloudbursts across multiple districts, notably Kangra and Chamba, with roads blocked and ongoing relief efforts. Pre-positioned NDRF and SDRF teams are deployed in vulnerable areas to accelerate relief and recovery. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is expected to visit Kangra to review relief measures.
