Hong Kong GDP rises 5.2% on export surge
Hong Kong’s economy grew 5.2% year over year in the third quarter, beating forecasts and extending its expansion to 15 consecutive quarters. GDP also rose 1.9% from the previous quarter, while growth for the first nine months reached 5.1%, the fastest pace for that period in five years. A 30.4% surge in goods exports and stronger investment helped drive growth; household consumption rose a more modest 2.8%. Officials said the outlook remained positive, citing continued export momentum and domestic demand, while flagging geopolitical tensions and tighter monetary policies as risks. September retail sales also increased 6.4%.
