HP Names Former GSK Chief Walmsley CEO
HP has named former GSK CEO Emma Walmsley as its next chief executive, effective Jan. 4, 2027, succeeding interim CEO Bruce Broussard, who will become board chair. Walmsley spent nearly nine years leading GSK and served seven years on Microsoft’s board, but has no direct experience running a technology hardware company. She takes charge as HP and other PC makers face a global memory-chip shortage driven by AI data-center demand, rising component costs and an expected decline in PC sales. HP’s third-quarter PC shipments fell 16% even as the division’s revenue rose 18%, reflecting a shift toward higher-priced products, including AI-enabled computers. Walmsley has identified AI as a potential source of growth for HP across computers, connected devices, software and services.
