IMAX Q2 profit rise with Odyssey; possible sale eyed
Imax reported a 12% rise in Q2 2026 revenue to about $103 million, with net income of $15.9 million and adjusted earnings per share of $0.43, beating prior estimates. The company highlighted strong international performance, with 24% box office growth outside Mainland China contributing to the quarterly gains. The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s Universal release shot entirely with Imax cameras, provided a blockbuster opening, accounting for 20% of the film’s global opening weekend grosses on less than 1% of total screens and $52 million in sales for Imax. The Odyssey’s global box office reached about $264 million, including non-IMAX theaters, with $124.5 million of that in the U.S., helping lift investor sentiment around the brand. Imax also noted balance-sheet strength with net cash of $36 million and available liquidity of $551 million, while signaling strategic options including a possible sale, as it eyes momentum into the second half backed by a strong slate.
