Iran Designates Royal Navy, RAF Terrorist, MI6 Hostile
Iran's Foreign Ministry stated on November 1, 2026 that the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force are designated terrorist organizations and that MI6 is classified a hostile group. The steps took effect that day under Supreme National Security Council authorization. Tehran linked them to British participation in the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran that began February 28, 2026, and to the UK's July 13, 2026 IRGC listing under the State Threats Act. The February strikes reportedly killed then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other leaders. Iran placed MI6 under its law intensifying penalties for espionage and collaboration with the Zionist regime and hostile states; it placed the Royal Navy and RAF under its law on countermeasures against the U.S. designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. On September 27, 2026, several British men were arrested outside RAF Fairford; two later appeared in a London court charged under the National Security Act over that incident. Rated sourcing holds one right-leaning headline and no left- or center-rated headlines. Any operational effect of the designations and any British response remain unreported.
