James Rodríguez announced his retirement from the Colombia national team in a video posted to his social media channels, closing a 15-year international career with 131 caps and 31 goals. The 35-year-old said: "After many years, matches, moments of joy, and tough times, I feel the moment has come to close a chapter of my life: my journey with the Colombian national team." He called wearing the jersey a dream and an enormous responsibility, recalled World Cups, goals and unforgettable nights, and stated he leaves with peace of mind because he gave absolutely everything. Rodríguez debuted in October 2011 in a win over Bolivia. He scored six goals in five matches at the 2014 World Cup to win the Golden Boot, then moved to Real Madrid for six seasons and two La Liga titles; he also played for Bayern Munich, Everton, Olympiakos, Sao Paulo, Rayo Vallecano, Club León and Minnesota United.
