Judge Keeps Omar Search Warrant Sealed
A federal judge has kept sealed the warrant used in the October 12 search of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington-area home, rejecting media organizations’ request for immediate access while the Justice Department’s investigation continues. Prosecutors say releasing the warrant and affidavit could expose investigative methods, sources or targets and risk obstruction; they have indicated they may support releasing some material later, with redactions. Investigators are examining possible discrepancies in immigration paperwork involving Omar or family members, as well as financial disclosures, and have not decided whether to bring charges. News organizations argue the records are important to public scrutiny of a search involving a sitting member of Congress, while Omar has denied wrongdoing and called the probe political intimidation.
