Kano State High Court has sentenced Shuaibu Abdulkadir to death by hanging for the murder of a 23-year-old housewife, Rumasa’u Shuaibu, with the judge ruling the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. The court heard that Abdulkadir killed the victim on April 6, 2025, in Farawa Quarters in Kano, allegedly because she was a friend of his girlfriend. Prosecution witnesses and materials, including a confessional statement, photographs, and the deceased’s mobile phone, were presented, though Abdulkadir denied the offence. His defence counsel urged leniency, describing him as a first-time offender who expressed remorse, and the judge gave him 90 days to appeal. In a separate Kano High Court ruling, Abdulkadir was convicted and sentenced to death for murdering a 22-year-old pregnant woman, Rumaisa Shuaibu, with evidence such as a video, a knife, and the defendant’s confession. The Kano State Attorney General hailed the convictions as a milestone in prosecuting criminal cases and protecting victims’ rights while upholding the rule of law.
