Las Vegas teen surrenders in Santa Monica shooting
Police say a 24-year-old man, Edgar Buitimea, was killed in a shooting near Santa Monica Pier shortly after midnight, in a parking lot adjacent to the area. A 16-year-old boy from Las Vegas surrendered to Santa Monica police and was taken into custody; authorities have not released his name due to his age. Investigators say a physical altercation between two groups preceded the shooting during a World Cup watch party crowd. The suspect turned himself in after being identified as a person of interest during the probe. The case will be referred to the Los Angeles County district attorney for filing, with the option to transfer to adult court as a juvenile. Police chief praised the detectives for their swift work and noted the ongoing effort to keep the beachfront safe.
