Meta loses appeal over French press-payment rules
The Paris Court of Appeals rejected Meta’s appeals, leaving in place French regulators’ interim orders in a dispute over payments to news publishers for using their content. Meta must negotiate in good faith, provide information about its platforms’ revenue and use of press content, and avoid reducing the content’s visibility. The court said Meta’s methods for calculating payments could amount to an abuse of a dominant position under French and European Union competition law. The ruling is not a final finding of wrongdoing; the underlying dispute continues. Meta said it was disappointed but would comply with the measures and continue negotiations.
