Multiple Magnitude-6 Earthquakes Strike Indonesia
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Java, Indonesia, on Saturday at a depth of about 376 kilometers, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The tremor followed a magnitude 6.2 earthquake in the Banda Sea near the Maluku Islands on Friday, which occurred roughly 140 to 148 kilometers deep and also caused no reported damage or deaths. Indonesian authorities said the Banda Sea quake posed no tsunami threat, though tremors were felt in parts of Maluku and residents were urged to avoid damaged buildings and rely on official updates. Indonesia is located on the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire and frequently experiences earthquakes and volcanic activity.
