Nationwide Pet Adoption Events Expand Amid Promotions
A broad wave of national and regional pet adoption events is underway, with new partnerships and ongoing promotions aimed at moving animals into homes. Notable efforts include Humane Fort Wayne partnering with PetSmart for a Saturday adoption drive, and Laredo's PetSmart event as part of National Adoption Week where all animals are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. Regions across the Midwest continue to participate in BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters, with Winnebago County extending its participation through July 25 and Rockford’s WCAS offering steep discounts to reduce crowding. The Kentucky Humane Society is moving to a new campus planned for 2027, while adoptions will continue at current sites through July 26 as part of the ALL IN expansion. Other shelters, including those in the metro-east and Rockingham County, promote discounted or free adoptions during the event window to boost placements. In some cases, shelters are consolidating operations to optimize resources, and one report highlights a shelter offering free adoptions for adult animals to encourage participation.
