NVIDIA to Invest $1B in Naver Data Centers
Naver is securing a $1 billion strategic investment from Nvidia via a third‑party share issue, with 7,241,564 new shares issued at 204,500 won each, raising about 1.481 trillion won for AI factory infrastructure. The funds will back an ambitious plan to expand Naver’s AI data center capacity from 55 MW to 200 MW by 2028, as part of a broader, roughly $9 billion computing infrastructure package financed with Brookfield’s involvement and aimed at global expansion beyond Asia-Pacific. Naver will lead the acquisition and operation of data center sites while Nvidia provides GPUs, with the project targeting 55 MW in the first year, scaling to 100 MW by 2027 and 200 MW by 2028. The deal is framed as a joint buildout of a global AI factory and aligns with Nvidia’s DSX platform, signaling deeper collaboration in AI infrastructure and cloud capabilities. The transaction comes as part of Naver’s wider strategy that also includes pursuing the $10.3 billion acquisition of Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, positioning the group at the intersection of AI infrastructure growth and crypto exchange consolidation. Market activity reflected the announcement, with pre-market gains and investor optimism around Naver’s enhanced AI capabilities and international expansion.
