A light vehicle at BMA’s Peak Downs open-pit coal mine near Moranbah in Central Queensland was struck by a mining truck just before 5am, resulting in one worker dying at the scene and another worker sustaining life-threatening injuries. The injured worker was transported to Moranbah Hospital with chest and leg injuries, while reports from some outlets note a second worker being trapped before authorities responded. Resources Health and Safety Queensland deployed investigators and coal inspectors to the site, working in coordination with the Queensland Police Service and the Queensland Ambulance Service. The Queensland Police’s Forensic Crash Unit is leading the investigation, and Peak Downs operations have been suspended pending findings.
