Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed a new gray wolf pack, the Piney Ridge Pack, in Eagle County, joining three other packs that reproduced this year: One Ear, Three Creeks, and Copper Creek. The King Mountain pack did not reproduce this year after the deaths of its breeding pair. CPW says average wolf litters are four to six pups, but Piney Ridge’s numbers were not released and will be included in the 2027 spring report. Pack formation is linked to higher survival and helps wildlife managers target conflict-minimization tools and establish territories. Overall, four Colorado packs have reproduced this year, marking continued progress in the wolf reintroduction program. CPW will publish minimum counts of the state’s wolf population in upcoming annual reports.
