Curtis Seeks Subpoenas for Trump Jr., Hunter Biden

Republican Sen. John Curtis of Utah sent a letter dated Sept. 22, 2026, to Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley and ranking member Dick Durbin asking the committee to subpoena Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden over foreign relationships, gifts, and any use of presidential proximity for gain. The request followed a ProPublica report that Umar Kremlev, head of the International Boxing Association with ties to Vladimir Putin, helped pay for a private-island rental and fireworks after Trump Jr. married Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas in May. Curtis wrote that the country should not have to accept one standard for the family of a Republican president and another for the family of a Democratic president, and he proposed parallel subpoenas. In social posts Curtis said a Russian oligarch paid for a lavish wedding after-party for Donald Trump Jr., which to him just stinks and is corruption; that a toaster is a wedding gift but a private-island party paid for by a Putin-connected oligarch is something else; and that Republicans nearly wore out the subpoena machine on Hunter Biden and should not unplug it now. Bettina Trump posted that Kremlev very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations after the wedding. Curtis also cited Trump Jr.'s cryptocurrency ventures, real-estate deals with foreign heads of state, reported defense-contracting investments, and Trump's ties to prediction-market platforms. Whether the committee will issue the subpoenas is unresolved.
