Powell, Linklater Reunite for Untitled Gehrig Biopic
Glen Powell and Richard Linklater are reuniting to tell the story of Lou Gehrig in an untitled biopic at Universal, with Powell starring. The project, produced by Lorne Michaels and Erin David, has Simon Rich writing and marks their first major collaboration since Everybody Wants Some!!. Linklater will direct through Detour Filmproduction, while Powell and Dan Cohen produce under Barnstorm; Universal and Broadway Video hold a first-look deal for the project. Gehrig's legacy includes his 2,130 consecutive games and his ALS diagnosis that ended his playing career, with the film aiming to capture the 'Iron Horse' legacy and his famous Yankee Stadium farewell. The project will join a lineage of Gehrig portrayals, echoing The Pride of the Yankees, but is in early development with timing and specifics still pending. No production start date or release window has been announced.
