Ramayana Part 1 Not Filmed; Global Two-Phase Release
At San Diego Comic-Con, the Ramayana project revealed that Part 1 has not yet been filmed and will end on a cliffhanger to lead into a two-part saga. Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release, with Part 2 arriving Diwali 2027, and Sony Pictures handles international distribution while Dharma Productions manages India. Director Nitesh Tiwari emphasized the scale and necessity of a two-part approach, with Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Yash as Ravana, and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Trailers faced delays and online leaks after previews, prompting fans to push for an official release despite circulating footage. The collaboration includes Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman as composers with VFX by DNEG, produced by Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios, and a global marketing push estimated around USD 40 million, including fashion moments like Tiranga and Trishul brooches. The plan remains to reach global audiences with a multi-platform, multilingual epic across Diwali 2026 and 2027.
