Second man arrested in 2023 Mississauga delivery-driver murder
Peel Regional Police have announced a second arrest in the 2023 killing of Gurvinder Nath, a 24-year-old Brampton food delivery driver who was attacked and robbed of his vehicle during a carjacking in Mississauga on July 9, 2023. Jazaine Kerr, 23, of Mississauga, was previously arrested in February 2024 and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a prohibited firearm. A Canada-wide warrant led to the arrest of Devaunte Thompson, 26, of Caledon, who was located in Toronto and charged with second-degree murder; authorities say he was held for a bail hearing. Nath’s death has intensified calls for stronger safety measures for gig-economy workers who operate late hours and in unfamiliar areas. Investigators say the suspects fled the scene in Nath’s vehicle, and the case remains under active investigation. The community and local advocates have emphasized the need for legal protections and safety protocols for delivery drivers in Ontario’s gig economy.
