Cedi coin rejection spurs BoG warning nationwide

The Bank of Ghana warned that refusing to accept cedi coins and notes in transactions is an offence punishable by up to three years in prison, a fine, or both, with enforcement by the police. It stressed that all coins in circulation remain legal tender (including pesewa, GH₵1 and GH₵2) and no trader can reject them, with ongoing enforcement and public reporting encouraged.
