BC Hydro Plans Vancouver Island Battery Storage

BC Hydro is advancing British Columbia’s first utility-scale battery storage facility near Duncan on Vancouver Island, with a planned capacity of at least 100 MW to boost grid reliability and meet growing demand, targeting operation by 2030. The project will be developed through a procurement process to pre-qualify suppliers and invite proposals, as part of BC Hydro’s Powering Growth plan to modernize the province’s electricity system.
