Sabalenka Reaches Sixth Straight US Open Semifinal
Aryna Sabalenka defeated Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova 7-6 (1), 3-6, 7-6 (10-7) in the U.S. Open quarterfinals, recovering from a 4-2 deficit in the deciding set and finishing with a second-serve ace. The victory extended Sabalenka’s U.S. Open winning streak to 18 matches and sent her to the semifinals for a sixth consecutive year, keeping alive her bid to become the first woman since Serena Williams to win the tournament three times in a row. Noskova’s 10-match Grand Slam winning streak ended after she forced two tiebreaks and came within one point of victory in the final breaker. Sabalenka will face Jessica Pegula or Emma Navarro in the semifinals. She must win the tournament to have a chance of remaining No. 1, while Elena Rybakina would take the top spot by reaching the semifinals or under other title-winning scenarios involving Pegula or Coco Gauff.
