Alvarez Reclaims WBC Title, Beats Mbilli Unanimously
CONTESTED: One source lists Álvarez at 64-3-2; another lists 63-3-2. From the sixth round in Riyadh, Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez landed a right uppercut and straight right, lowered his hands to invite exchanges, and punctuated the seventh with an uppercut. Mbilli had pressed him early toward the ropes. Referee Hector Afu deducted a point from Mbilli in the eighth for a punch to the back of the head. Judges scored 115-112, 116-111 and 117-110. Álvarez reclaimed the WBC super-middleweight title. CompuBox: 132 power punches for Álvarez, 99 for Mbilli. Mbilli fell to 29-1-1, his first pro loss. "Like my first title. Thirty-one years as a professional. Sixteen years ago, I won my first title. Now, I won the title again. I'm so proud," Álvarez said. He called the feeling "something unbelievable" and said, "It's difficult to throw punches with me." Next: "I'm gonna rest. I'm gonna keep learning. I'm gonna keep working hard." The win returned him to champion status after a September 2025 loss to Terence Crawford. Álvarez is 36. The event ran amid security concerns in Saudi Arabia after missile incidents and other sports cancellations.
