Toyota recalls RAV4 hybrids and Land Cruisers over power loss and fuel leak risks

Toyota opened two separate, unconnected recalls. NHTSA disclosed a recall of 105,794 U.S. Land Cruisers from model years 2024-2027 after a fuel-tube connection near the tank can separate and leak fuel, raising fire risk if fuel meets an ignition source. Some reports round the figure to about 106,000. Dealers are to inspect the connection, add a clamp, and replace the tube if needed; reports say no fires or injuries have been reported. In a distinct action, Toyota filed NHTSA documents and recalled nearly 39,000 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrids in the U.S. and Canada—30,978 U.S. vehicles built July 22, 2025 through August 19, 2026, plus 7,847 in Canada—over a motor-generator control unit software error. The flaw can force reduced power or a full hybrid shutdown while driving, especially at higher speeds that need a certain motor mode, sometimes after warning lights. Transport Canada warned sudden loss of power to the wheels could raise crash odds. The fix is a free in-dealer software update, not over-the-air; Canadian owners are due notices by early December 2026.
