Two Women Charged in Georgia 4-Year-Old’s Death

A 4-year-old boy, identified as Cobee Cooks, was found dead beneath clothing in an Atlanta home during a welfare check. Authorities ruled his death a homicide caused by blunt-force injuries; court documents describe extensive injuries, including burns and damage to his liver and spleen, and estimate he had been dead for 12 to 24 hours. Jasmaine Smoak, described as the children’s caretaker, and Jasmine Jenkins, who lived with her, were arrested and charged in connection with his death; Smoak also faces charges including aggravated assault and child cruelty. Police say Smoak left the home with children shortly before officers arrived, and they were recovered when she was arrested; one of the children, identified by relatives as Cobee’s brother, had visible injuries and was hospitalized. Family members had reportedly raised concerns about the children’s safety before Cobee’s death.
