Unifor, Stellantis Talks Hit Impasse Over Brampton Plant
Unifor and Stellantis have reached an impasse after 10 days of bargaining and paused contract talks while the union considers its next steps. The central dispute is the future of Stellantis’ Brampton Assembly Plant, which has been idle since 2023 after the automaker withdrew a promised Jeep Compass investment; Stellantis is now considering closing and selling the facility to defense supplier Roshel. Unifor also says Stellantis has not confirmed plans for its Windsor Assembly and Etobicoke Casting plants and has tied a proposed economic settlement to Brampton’s closure. The union says there will be no tentative agreement without a suitable resolution for Brampton workers, whose current contract expires Sept. 20 at 11:59 p.m.
