USA Bobsled enlists Utah aerospace firms for lighter Olympic sleds

USA Bobsled & Skeleton is partnering with Utah aerospace and advanced-manufacturing companies to develop lighter, stronger composite sleds, aiming to improve American athletes’ competitiveness ahead of the 2034 Winter Olympics in Utah. Albany Engineered Composites will make cowlings for four-man sleds, Nammo Composite Solutions will produce carbon-fiber cowlings for two-man sleds, and Hexcel will supply materials and composite expertise; 47G brought the partners together. The effort builds on design and aerodynamics support from American Honda and Acura, with Honda expected to assemble the sleds. The organizations say aerospace-grade materials and engineering could help make a difference in a sport where races can be decided by fractions of a second.
