The Verus–Ethereum Bridge has been drained again, about $7.54 million, by exploiting the same import path and vulnerability class as the May attack. Security firm Blockaid notes the July incident used a new wallet and attacker, but the exploitation mirrored the earlier method producing unbacked Ethereum-side payouts. The May breach, which drained roughly $11.5–$11.6 million, was only partially recovered and redeposited into the bridge before the July attack. Analysts warn that the recurring exploits suggest the underlying structural weakness remains unaddressed and security patches may not be fully effective. The latest breach continues to fuel concerns about cross-chain bridge security, audits, and monitoring, with laundering of stolen funds through methods such as Tornado Cash noted. Verus has not issued a public statement yet, and users are advised to exercise caution.
