He FLEW To His College Classes...
Credits: CTV News, City Geek, Lina Lecompte Tim Chen was a university student at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada, who went viral in February 2024 for his unusual commute. Instead of living near his university, he lived with his parents in Calgary, roughly 680 kilometres away, and flew to Vancouver twice a week to attend classes. He had previously rented an apartment in Vancouver, but when he discovered that rent would cost around CAD $2,500 per month, he decided it was no longer worth it. Chen's solution was to take flights with Air Canada, paying around CAD $150 for each round trip, or approximately CAD $1,200 per month. That was considerably cheaper than renting an apartment, allowing him to save money while continuing his education. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, he would fly to Vancouver, attend around three hours of classes, and return to Calgary that same evening. His story went viral because it highlighted just how expensive housing had become: flying to university and back was cheaper than renting a place near campus. He planned to continue this routine until graduating in May 2024. . . . Fair Use Disclaimer This video is for educational and transformative purposes under the Fair Use Doctrine (17 U.S.C. §107).
