Hurricane Vance Nears Mexico, Could Reach Category 3

Hurricane Vance strengthened to Category 2 over the Pacific and was moving slowly north-northwest offshore of Mexico. Forecasts indicated a possible approach toward western Mexico early next week, but its track and intensity remained uncertain; the latest hurricane-center outlook kept its center offshore and anticipated gradual weakening. If Vance shifts closer to shore, parts of western Mexico could face dangerous surf, strong wind gusts, heavy rain and localized flooding.
